The South Dakota Dental Association (SDDA) has submitted a Petition to promulgate new administrative rules and revise existing administrative rules pursuant to SDCL 1-26-13, which includes three distinct proposals.  First, the SDDA has submitted a proposal to allow Dental Hygienists and Registered Dental Assistants to perform restorative functions.  Second, the SDDA has submitted a proposal to allow Registered Dental Assistants to Perform supragingival scaling.  Third, the SDDA has submitted a proposal to allow Dental Assistants (i.e. unregistered dental assistants) to administer Nitrous Oxide.  The Board is seeking stakeholder feedback on the SDDA’s three proposals. 

The three SDDA proposals, along with the documentation provided by the SDDA, can be accessed below.  Please submit feedback for each proposal using the Stakeholder Feedback Portal below each proposal.  Feedback must be received by 5pm Central on October 3, 2024.    

The SDDA proposals, along with stakeholder feedback received, will be reviewed by the State Board of Dentistry (Board) at its meeting on October 18, 2024.
