The Board approved an emeritus/ retirement status agreement for qualifying dentists and dental hygienists at the January 2023 Board meeting. Individuals who are retiring from the clinical practice of dentistry but wish to retain their license for an additional period of time may apply.  An individual is eligible for the agreement one time during their career for a maximum of a three year period.  CPR and Continuing Education would no longer be required, but the individual must renew their license annually and pay all renewal fees. They must relinquish all permits and refrain from all clinical practice in South Dakota during the term of the agreement.

Individuals who are under such an agreement and would like to return to clinical practice may do so upon approval of the Board. Continuing education, clincal and/or didactic testing, or other conditions may be required.
